TEACHING TEACHERS - ROOTS OF RHYTHM
Written by Greg Whitt Saturday, 08 August 2009 00:00
Roots of Rhythm was developed with the help of the Percussion Marketing Council so that teachers can integrate rhythm into the classroom curriculum.
The Conduit Center for Creative Change just participated in a fantastic program with Craig Woodson, PhD, called Roots of Rhythm. Designed for school-aged kids, the idea is that drumming in the classroom puts the world in their hands. Interdisciplinary and interactive, the RoR academic and arts curriculum is multi-cultural, educational, and fun. It’s a hands-on exploration developed by a world-class percussionist and educator. The program integrates geography, science, math, social studies, language arts and life skills. On its own or as a curriculum enhancement, this program adds deeper meaning to the fundamentals and brings essential developmental skills like creative thinking and problem solving, art appreciation, tolerance, teamwork, self-discipline, and positive self-expression to students, classrooms, schools, and communities in an innovative, intuitive, and influential new way.
