LEADING LEADERS - Three DRUM CIRCLES TODAY

Drum circle metaphors allow a facilitator to teach without teaching. Through analogy, the circle serves as a microcosm to illustrate larger learnings in life.
With the help of friend, former student, and now fellow-facilitator Susan Petrie of Orbital Rhythms, Drum for Change facilitated a leadership program for the faculty at Fuquay-Varina High School. Annelies and I met with Principal Edward McFarland a couple of weeks ago to discuss how the Conduit Center for Creative Change could best serve his needs to provide a leadership-themed program for 140 people. Annelies, Susan and I spent the morning traveling, on site setting up, leading the program, and then packing out. It was definitely a good day’s work! Several participants raved about the program on our way out. The principal said “You and your team did an outstanding job today. I have heard many great things from the staff. They really enjoyed the sessions. Thank you again for sharing your talent with us. It was a wonderful and unique way for us to begin the year. “ I topped these great compliments off with a most excellent drum circle at the Lake Johnson Jam tonight. Twenty or so of us had a fantastic time sharing our bliss, creating in the moment, and singing along to songs I learned from my friend and mentor in Tampa, Jana Broder of DrumMagic. Truly it is a gift to do this work! The community I find in and around the drum circle is filled with wonderful and amazing people willing to explore the magic, tap into their inner rhythm, and get their groove on!
