WHEN I DREAM, I DRUM

Bryan Chisholm, a Jamaican living in Ireland, describes himself as “The Escapist” in this short film that illustrates his path as an artist, drummer, and ex-patriot.
"Writing is a form of therapy; sometimes I wonder how all those who do not write, compose or paint can manage to escape the madness, melancholia, the panic and fear which is inherent in a human condition. "
~Graham Green
As a younger man I never would have considered myself to be any sort of artist. I didn’t find drumming until later in life. I was in my early 30’s when I first heard the call of the drum. Digging deep, I realize that jazz band and high school musicals really lit my fire. I pushed those passions aside as I set on the professional path when I entered college. Only later did I learn that true success and actualization comes to those who embrace their inherent talents and divine gifts. I once heard the phrase “Do what you love otherwise you’ll work the rest of your life!” I’m so glad that I finally realized the truth in that statement. If we waste our time and energy doing anything else, we short-change ourselves and the world in which we live by merely biding time doing what is expected of us rather than what we were born to do. I’m not advocating quitting your day job, mind you, but sometimes the universe provides those sorts of opportunities as it just has for me. Rather, I’d like to suggest that you embrace the things that light your fires. Uncover the hidden talents that lie dormant. Ignite your fires and take time to nurture the flames. See how Bryan Chisholm does it here.
