The BeatBoxx

Many people wonder how I've collected and carry so many drums to their schools, businesses, festivals, and parties.  I've been drumming since 2002 and in those years have accumulated quite a collection of instruments - from big Afro-Cuban conga drums to West African djembes to Middle Eastern doumbeks to the universal frame drum.  Plus I have bunches and bunches of shakers, bells, boom whackers, and other percussion toys.

I decided to film this video clip about my BeatBoxx, the Scion xB that hauls all that gear around.  Like a plumber with a van full of specialized equipment, I bring all my tools to your location and facilitate rhythm-based events on-site.  Even a simple one-hour event requires an additional two hours for packing, travel, set up, repacking, and unloading.

There's a LOT behind the scenes that went into making your recreational music-making event the magic that your participants experience:  years of workshops and drum lessons, thousands of dollars in world percussion instruments, considerable study of drum circle facilitation techniques, formal studies in communication, team-building, and creativity, plus trial-by-fire experience leading literally hundreds of drum circles with thousands of people.

Many people also ask if I actually earn a living at this.  My answer is a resounding YES!  This is the best job in the world! Helping people unleash their creativity, build community, learn about global cultures, and tap into their inherent musicality is the most rewarding work I've ever done.  It is a direct and positive impact on people that leaves them feeling good and feeling connected.  I relish every opportunity to help you, your students, your employees, your families, and your communities come together through rhythm!
