Celebrating the Season in Rhythm

Drum for Change team at the 2011 NC WIC Annual Conference.
Drum for Change has had a fantastic Fall with events ranging the gamut: school programs, corporate team-building, community festivals, non-profit fundraisers, performances, and wellness retreats. Two six-week series of Conga Classes based on my grant-funded trip to Cuba this summer were hugely fun and educational on both music and culture. TEDx Charlotte with drumSTRONG was awesome! The new t-shirts and a new logo on the Beatboxx are getting great reviews. More great stuff is on the horizon!

Cool weather, cool music, cool happenings are here! Fall has always been a magical season for me, and this year is no different. Great things are happening in my world - cool stuff is coming out of the woodwork in support of my vision for Drum For Change. Annelies is reactivating her artwork now that she has finished her degree AND she's making another trip to the Caribbean. Raleigh Drum Circle turns nine years old. Classes are awesome....

Just back from Cuba, Drum For Change has a great line-up for the rest of the summer season. Thanks to the support of the United Arts Council and numerous private donors, I was able to spend a week in Havana and a week in Matanzas studying folkloric drums. Check out the VIDEO below for a taste of what that was like!

Love Drumming
Written by Greg Whitt Thursday, 17 February 2011 00:00
It's no secret. I love drumming. I love the way it lets loose the funk, allowing my creative spirit to shine. I love the way it shakes me to the core. And I love the way it unites people through a shared recreational music-making experience!
