Drum & Flute Workshop Coming March 3 at Patanjali's Place

LOTS is happening at Drum for Change!  Greg has declared 2012 to be a year of collaborations.  Over the next few months I'm co-facilitating a Drum and Flute Workshop with Ed Dougherty of Tree of Life Designs.  I'm co-teaching a drum and dance residency with coach, yoga teacher, and dancer Jaimie Powell.  I'm co-hosting Jim Donovan's Rhythm Renewal retreat with my great friends Robin and Rachel at HappyBeat Drumming.  AND I'm collaborating with friends Catherine Carver and Kevin Wilson to create an Earth Day Celebration at Saint Anne's Chapel.

Celebrating the Season in Rhythm

Drum for Change team at the 2011 NC WIC Annual Conference.

Drum for Change has had a fantastic Fall with events ranging the gamut:  school programs, corporate team-building, community festivals, non-profit fundraisers, performances, and wellness retreats.  Two six-week series of Conga Classes based on my grant-funded trip to Cuba this summer were hugely fun and educational on both music and culture.  TEDx Charlotte with drumSTRONG was awesome!  The new t-shirts and a new logo on the Beatboxx are getting great reviews.  More great stuff is on the horizon!

Mid-Summer Boooogie!

Written by Greg Whitt Tuesday, 26 July 2011 00:00

Just back from Cuba, Drum For Change has a great line-up for the rest of the summer season.  Thanks to the support of the United Arts Council and numerous private donors,  I was able to spend a week in Havana and a week in Matanzas studying folkloric drums.  Check out the VIDEO below for a taste of what that was like!
